About Shady Drift

A team dedicated to creating homes that work beautifully for the people who live in them.

How We Started

Shady Drift began in 2012 when our founder, Marcus Reynolds, grew frustrated with the gap between how renovation companies promised projects would unfold and what actually happened on site. After fifteen years working for larger firms, he wanted to build something different—a company where honest communication mattered as much as quality craftsmanship.

The first project was a Victorian terrace in Dulwich. The clients needed their kitchen and bathroom renovated but couldn't move out during the work. Marcus coordinated everything to minimise disruption: work started at agreed times, the site was cleaned properly each evening, and temporary facilities were maintained throughout. The project finished on schedule and within budget.

That approach became our template. We've since grown to a team of eighteen, but the principles remain the same. Clear timelines, transparent costs, and treating your home with respect.

Who We Are

Our team includes project managers, interior designers, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and decorators. Everyone has at least eight years of experience, and most have worked together for several years. This continuity means we communicate efficiently and solve problems quickly.

What Matters to Us

Quality Over Speed

We could finish projects faster by cutting corners, but poor installation causes problems for years. We'd rather take an extra week to do things properly than rush through work that won't last.

Honest Conversations

If something will cost more than expected or take longer than planned, we tell you immediately. Difficult conversations early prevent worse problems later.

Problem-Solving Mindset

Unexpected issues arise in renovation work, especially in older properties. Our team focuses on finding solutions rather than dwelling on complications.

Continuous Learning

Building regulations change, new materials become available, and better methods emerge. We invest in training to keep our skills current.

Why Work With Us

Choosing a renovation company means trusting people in your home, often for weeks or months. These factors consistently matter to our clients:

Proven Track Record

Over 450 completed projects with an average customer satisfaction rating of 94%. Most of our new clients come from referrals.

Direct Communication

You'll have mobile numbers for your project manager and site supervisor. Questions get answered the same day, not forwarded through layers of management.

Comprehensive Insurance

Full public liability cover and all necessary certifications. Our electricians and plumbers are registered with relevant trade bodies.

Clear Documentation

Detailed contracts, itemised quotes, and written specifications before work begins. You'll know exactly what you're getting.

Respectful Site Management

Our team treats your home as we'd want ours treated. Dust containment, daily cleaning, and consideration for your neighbours.

Two-Year Warranty

We stand behind our work with a comprehensive warranty covering all labour and installation. If something isn't right, we come back and fix it.

Our Approach to Design

Good design makes your home work better, not just look better. We start by understanding how you actually use your space.

Do you cook elaborate meals or prefer quick preparation? Do children need homework space or play areas? Do you work from home and need quiet zones? These practical considerations shape every design decision.

Aesthetics matter, but they come after functionality. We've learned that clients appreciate beautiful spaces most when those spaces genuinely improve their daily routine. The kitchen that photographs well but lacks adequate storage quickly loses its appeal.

Our design process involves showing you physical samples and realistic visualisations. Colours and materials look different in your own light compared to showroom conditions, so we bring samples to your property before you commit.
